A Little Here and A Little There
Well, I’m off in a bit to go pick up Coco. If you remember she had her left leg stabilized due to a luxating patella, torn cruciate ligament, etc. Well, she’s been hobbling around again, some due to the cold weather and arthritis, but some due to now a torn cruciate ligament in the right leg. Well, no avoiding it… it was time the right leg had to be done. The surgery is horrible and the recovery is not much fun either, so it’s going to be a rough 3-4 months around here.
Well… it’s no surprise I’ve been back in the sewing room. Friday I had my little bags class at Acorn Quilts. It was more a formula over an actual pattern and was very interesting. I managed to get 3 of the 4 bags done in different styles. I want to get the 4th one done soon. I bought a little more fabric to do another 4th style one.
The $5 club – Rhapsody Quilt is this weekend at the Quilter’s General Store, so I also managed to get my two blocks done. This time we’re doing two of the same blocks. I suppose we could use different colors, but since it’s so many blocks again it will look scrappy enough, so I’m just sticking with two blocks the same color. Plus the blocks get more challenging as you go… so enough trouble there. I love it though… challenge me, so I can build my skills faster.
The Farmer’s Market Quilt is coming along. I now have all the center blocks done and I’m starting to build the outside border. I auditioned the yellow and it seems to work. I have to say I don’t care for the no-waste method of flying geese, I want to like it… really. I know I’m in the minority, but I never can get them as accurate as I can with other methods. I even have two rulers to help with this specific method and I’ve increased the size of the squares. I’ve used different marking methods and always I’m short at the top or I’m so right on, I can’t square it and they just aren’t perfect. Maybe I will try again in the future.
So instead, I’ve been using my Finished Sized Quilting ruler additions and now I’m getting perfect. These additions have just the right seam allowance and they do lots of blocks, not just flying geese. I have the ones with suction cups that you can use on your own ruler. I can square these up perfect and I love perfect flying geese, so now I’m thinking of getting their Guidelines Ruler with the seam allowance additions. I have no affiliation to these folks, just really like these products. I’m going to have to take this outside to get a better picture of the colors.
