Another Snowy Saturday Sky

So it was pretty bright out and then just started snowing again.  it was only that light fluffy snow, so no sticking.

Unfortunately I don’t have good news on Sophie’s prognosis.  She’s in kidney failure right now.  She has only about 25% function and it’s not reversible.  Unfortunately the tumor now is only secondary and removing it will not make a difference one way or the other.  In fact, I’m not thrilled about having her go back under for any reason at this point.  They cleaned her teeth when she was under and got some x-rays, but unfortunately we couldn’t see anything as to the cause of the kidney failure.  I should mention that Sophie has had health problems all of her 12 years, so this is not entirely unexpected.  While no one knows how long.  The vet believes 6-12 months based off of cases he has seen previous to this one.

Now I’m not just worried about Sophie, but our Max is also on my mind.  He is so attached to Sophie.  Max has always had Sophie in his life.  I think Coco has done much to ease this but, I’m adding another to-do to my list.  I’m going to take him back to class to help build his confidence and get him some more socialization.  I’ve meet some really nice folks here that have done excellent work with dogs and I think this may help him in the long run.  Also,  I’m thinking they may be able to help if he does get depressed.

  • Sending you lots of good wishes for all involved. It’s as hard on the animal friends as it is on us, especially since they don’t really understand what’s happening. Keep us posted and know we care.

  • Rose, I’m sorry to hear about Sophie. I know that she is receiving much comfort from your loving care. You are in my thoughts.

  • I’m so sorry to hear about Sophie. It’s so hard to make peace with letting go, even when we know it’s the end. I hope that Coco will help Max cope with Sophie’s eventual passing. I know my Annie has had a hard time since Molly’s passing last year and slowly, she is starting to accept Maia, but my mother is considering another pup because Annie just doesn’t know how to be alone. How is Coco with Sophie? I know she hasn’t been around as long as Max, obviously, but is she attached at all? I really feel for you, Rose. I am so sorry that you are having to go through this.

  • Give Sophie some extra hugs and pats from me. I know it will be just as hard for you guys as it will be for Max when it does come time to let her go.
