Baked Apples and Pirates

Catchy title, eh?

It’s been a lazy Sunday around here and I decided to have a favorite fall snack.  Last year I did baked apples for the first time and they became a favorite around here.   Since there are lots of apples in the fridge I decided to whip myself up a snack today.

Baked apples

I sliced up two smallish apples, added a little water, apple pie spice – more cinnamon, a pat of butter, and a dash of brown sugar.  Then I microwaved it for 2 minutes.  Yum.  Sometimes I add raisins and walnuts.  Last year we bought apple baking dishes, but that takes way longer than a few minutes.

My other topic of the day is my little pirate kitty.

Faygo the pirate kitty

Last week Faygo managed to scratch his eye and it developed a ulcer.  We don’t know how he scratched it, but since he’s not a seeing cat (cataracts have made him blind) he does rub his face a lot more on everything.  For the past week I’ve been giving him 2 different eye drops 4x per day each – which means he’s getting meds every couple of hours.  I didn’t think it was looking good, but at our last doctor’s visit Saturday the doctor said it was looking great.  He removed the dead tissue and said now it will heal even faster. So another week of meds and he should be back to his normal self.

I’m also on day two of scheduled cat feedings.  Faygo needs a higher protein food, Tobey needs C/D, and a few of the other cats would benefit from the higher protein Wellness – so we’re trying a new routine.  Day one – not so good.  However, day two seems to be going better, so hopeful this will stick.  I’ve tried this in the past, but contrary to what all the reports said my insulin dependent kitty needed to regulate through free feeding.  However, he hasn’t needed insulin since March so scheduled meals may work.  I’ll keep you posted.

  • Hurrah for Faygo, that’s great news. Fingers are crossed that the scheduled feeding goes well. We have left everyone on the KD over here because it was just so much easier. Thankfully that’s still an option for us. The apples look delish. My apple picking plans for Saturday got rained out, maybe next weekend they’ll work.
