I spent the weekend playing with my new speed-light (SB900), off camera lightening cord and Strobies portrait kit (I especially like the beauty dish bounced off the ceiling in the house). I think actually I will probably need 2 speed-lights to make maximum use of the kit, but I’m waiting on the SB700 to come out before that happens. Also if a flash is needed out of doors I’m thinking the 700 will be easier to lug around than the 900, which feels very sturdy.
Here’s a quick and dirty shot of the new gear before I ripped into it.
However, some of my nicest shots came practicing some portraits out at the forest preserve and pet portraits in the back yard.
My favorite subjects.
Next up…I’m waiting for my Cream Machine to come. Squee… I can’t wait. I called around to several local shops on Friday looking for one and a shop in Madison said they had one. We went up there to pick it up, but it was not the new 85mm 1.4 AF-S G, so I had them order it. As Ken Rockwell’s review said and I agree with – “This is probably why the few other people who already have this new lens have also been trying to pick themselves up off the floor after shooting with it.” I haven’t been able to get it out of my brain since I shot with it and yes, I should have bought it that moment.
Anyway – the tax is cheaper up there and they won me over with promises to call the area Nikon rep to see how quickly they can get one. They said call today – so keep your fingers crossed. It will be all I can do to not call them at 10:01 AM the moment after they open to see when they can get it for me.
