Purge

One of the other things I want to do this year that I may not have listed is to clean out some of the things that seem to have traveled around with me for the last decade or so.  I really want to purge the basement this year.  I know there is stuff down there that needs to find a new home.  However, right now I’m going to start small and I did the pantry and the tea cupboard.

First off the tea cupboard.  I finally pulled out everything that has not been touched in a year or more and pitched it.  I tried lots of tea over the years in the process of refining my tastes and finding things I like.  Unfortunately with that type of adventure will come some casualties, so as unfortunate as it was, some had to go and I pitched the old stuff and the stuff I no longer have a taste for.

I have more cups for the lower shelf, I purged out the ones I didn’t like and the rest are just in the dishwasher getting a good wash as they were quite dusty. I wasn’t using them as they were too over crowded.

Next up was the pantry.  Having a big pantry is a blessing and a curse.  Sometimes things seem to be pushed in the back and start accumulating without me being fully aware.  I just shove more in without thinking.  I’m trying to be more conscious with wants going in and now I have a good grasp of what’s already in there.

  • Andy makes me rotate the stuff in the pantry first in first out style. He gets kinda anal about it if you ask me.

  • Hehehe… Dad & I did the same thing with the freezer the other day. I went a step further. I listed everything that is in the freezer and stuck the list on the freezer. We now cross off each item we use. Dad’s trying to empty it so that we can defrost it before it does it on its own 🙂

  • I’m guilty of the pantry thing, too. I’ve been trying very hard lately to reorganize and use what we have while staying well-stocked on basics like soups and such for quick meals. Having a tiny apartment kitchen may be a blessing in disguise, I guess… you can’t accumulate too much before you absolutely have to get a hold on it.
